a8bird (formely stitchra1n and eightra1n) is a command-line (CLI) utility for macOS that allows downgrading and restoring iPhones running the A8 chipset - the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. Originally shadowdropped by zunembxler on Reddit in July 2026, but the utility is still in development and there are no working versions as of now. The main blocker that restricts the script from downgrading A8 iPhones while retaining SEP functionality is a lack of a proper mature blackbird-based exploit like on A9-A10X which turdus merula uses.

Possible SEP exploit

On August 3, 2026, zunembxler received a DM from Pkkf5673 of a possible SEP exploit for A8 happening in the future, with him collaborating with Dethrider (a surrealra1n contributor) to somehow crack the SEP and open the door for restore tools, such as a8bird. Zune called this new situation "exploit hopium"

Usage

A8bird is planned to work either with downgades with blobs or tethered blobless downgrades that require the computer every time. Both types plan to include SEP functionality.
